On offer oil in sand on board English valley landscape depicting trees silhouetted against a sunset or sunrise. The introduction within the oil paint gives this a marvelous textural surface and softens the effect of the composition throughout. Luminous representation of light characterizes this charming scene.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Dorothy Whittington lived in Sussex and exhibited in London as a member of the prestigious Royal Institute of Painters, an association of artists composed only of those elected by all artist members. In loose Bloomsbury style, she painted landscapes, interior scenes and figurative works, often on roughly textured board. An assured hand and unerring use of color mark her works.
