On offer oil on canvas interior figure study, likely a self portrait of the artist at work, Dorothy Whittington. The title of the work, "Azeleas," refers either to the potted plant at right, or to the subject matter, out of our view, that the painter depicts. Long views of a garden and village beyond are visible through the windows behind the artist.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Dorothy Whittington lived in Sussex and exhibited in London as a member of the prestigious Royal Institute of Painters, an association of artists composed only of those elected by all artist members. In loose Bloomsbury style, she painted landscapes, interior scenes and figurative works, often on roughly textured board. An assured hand and unerring use of color mark her works.
