Raised Lacquer Tray Japanese Takamaki-e Hiramaki-e Meiji Period 1900 1910 Red and Black on Gold Mustard

Photos truly do not do this marvelous piece of Meiji lacquer justice -- it has to be the single most difficult to photograph item I've had in my shop in the last 10 years. The surface texture is an amazing almost complete matte, wonderful in the hand, that simply does not photograph. The colors are rich and lustrous, but end up looking dull here. The quality of the carving is exceptional. Very good piece.
